Stephen Greenhut: Perhaps we can have two important things at once: Greater public trust of police officers and more people willing to take police jobs. Instead of complaining about a public that doesn’t appreciate them, police officials ought to spend more time assuring their departments always are worthy of the appreciation

This article by Stephen Greenhut might shed some light on Chico’s police crisis.

Dear Juanita, thank you for sharing the Stephen Greenhut article about policing. Chico PD is insular, non-transparent, and resistant to change AND EXPENSIVE. Recent shenanigans by police officers in Chico and elsewhere in Butte County confirm the poor screening process of Chico PD and the sheriff’s office. CPD officers are being charged by the DA, a rare occurrence, for giving mind-altering drugs to minors and domestic violence, a viral video showing a CPD sergeant picking a fight with a cop-watcher because his feelings were hurt. Chief Aldridge has to prove to the public that his officers deserve public trust, but he is failing. Your DA hates to file criminal charges against his cop buddies, but DUI’s and Domestic Violence against spouses and kids finally force his hand to do his job to protect the public. The taxpayers of Chico and Butte County are not getting their money’s worth from law enforcement leadership.

Thanks Scott, I was glad to find this article – he’s debunking the pervasive lies about police funding, staffing, and recruitment.
