Thank you Toby Shindelbeck for attending the Legislative Action Committee meetings which are NOT LISTED ON THE AGENDAS PAGE of the city website.
CORRECTION – my apologies – I found out, this is NOT a committee of the city but of the Chico Chamber, of which Lando is a member and past president.
I have been remiss – I knew about these meetings, but I have not attended. What I didn’t know, is this is where Tom Lando is plotting and planning with Council members and city staff to get that sales tax increase on the city ballot.
They (Lando and friends) have until the first council meeting in July to come up with a proposal for Council, and it looks like they are planning to do so.
If we have to mount an opposing campaign, we are ready to open our checkbooks.
The closure of Station 5 should have tipped me off – they are tying public safety to the train tracks to threaten us into passing both the phone tax and the sales tax.
We have a meeting Sunday at the library, 11:30. I hope some folks will show up, ready to work.
I thought they had until the 2d meeting in May. What gives?
I guess I misunderstood the timeline I was given – I have not had time to check it again today, I just came in from my day job. Will have to look into it tomorrow.
There’s a meeting at the library Sunday, we’ll hash through it.
stay on it, the last thing Chico needs is a sales and phone tax increase.
thanks so much for commenting, I’m so glad to have you.
I can’t (well ok, I can) believe they’re actually going to try and push this thing through! What a bunch of bloodsuckers!!
I know, I was in disbelief myself.
This three quarter cent increase in addition to Jerry Brown’s proposed half-cent increase would raise the Chico sales tax to 8 and a half cents on the dollar.
I’m petty, maybe, but that’s going to push me to do more online shopping. We’re already buying our gas out of town – whenever we have an errand to do in Ham City, Red Bluff, O-ville, wherever, we fill our gas tank. I told my husband I also want to see the inside of that GI-NOR-MOUS Home Depot over in O-ville, and I wouldn’t mind going to one of these newfangled Super WalMarts we been hearing so much about.
