Voter pamphlets and mail-in ballots should be arriving now – primary June 3

14 May

I got my mail-in ballot a few days ago, and I’ve filled it almost completely. I have to admit, there are some offices I’m not voting, I just don’t know anything about the candidates one way or the other. And, there are a couple I have not decided yet, I’ll be holding onto it a couple more days.

Would you believe, there are still five days left to register to vote in this election?

Geez, and almost three more weeks of mailbox stuffed fulla junk!

This is just one day's sampling of the campaign blitz.

See there, Bill Connelly sent me a Mother’s Day card.

That Bill, he's a go-getter.

That Bill, he’s a go-getter.

Good for Bill, he sent a post card – on the other hand, Bob Evans gets the Paul Bunyan award.

10 x 14? That's a lot of tree pulp Bob!

I often worry my mail carrier won’t be able to get my regular mail in there.

Here's a pissing match - will the extra two and a half inches guarantee victory for Mr. Gallagher? My dad always said, check their shoe size.

I often wonder how much these mailers influence people’s decisions. And then there’s this guy.

I have to wonder how much money this man makes selling ads in his "newsletter."

I wish the candidates would compete for “most money given to charity”, instead.

I would like to see some of the money taken out of the campaigns, it’s gotten so a regular citizen is excluded from running. City council and county supervisor positions should be filled with everyday folks, turned over ever four to eight years – instead we have a machine here that forces a person to spend 10’s of thousands to be taken “seriously,” run on a slate, attach themselves to a political organization, etc.

thanks for supporting Chico Taxpayers Association Al, you’ve been great, you’ve run a wonderful campaign.

Did you get my mailer? Maureen Kirk

Yes, thanks Maureen. I got your reasonable mailer early on, before the blitzkrieg. It was small, addressed to both the voters in my household (instead of TWO mailers addressed separately), and contained the pertinent information – Name, Office Sought, Accomplishments in Office, and Endorsements. I think the main purpose of a mailer is to remind people the election is coming, who is running, and positive reasons to vote for a candidate. I think you and Bob have run a nice campaign, thanks.

I hate negative mailers, last minute hit-pieces. I was sorry Ryan and James got into that little snit fight over garter snakes and elderberry beetles, showing their ignorance and alienating people who believe in environmental protection. Meanwhile Jim Reed whistles all the way to election day without any opposition – good job Boys!

Thanks. It will remain positive on my end.
