Out and About: here is a nuts and bolts discussion about switching from local fire department to Cal Fire

30 May

Well, I’ve been reading the Cal Coast News every day lately because it’s better than our local media. Today I found this story from a couple of weeks ago regarding the “Five Cities Fire Authority”, formed through a “Joint Powers Agreement” to serve a group of small communities in San Luis Obispo County.

Residents are complaining that the JPA is costing them a lot more than they expected, and fees are again being raised. They were told this arrangement would save them money, but it’s going hundreds of thousands over budget, and people are wondering if they should sign a contract with Cal Fire. Here’s the discussion we’ve been trying to have, with nothing but a lot of “what if’s” because local leadership won’t have a real discussion in front of the public.

And, this is interesting to me – they’re only a few hundred thousand over budget, and people are concerned. Money problems tend to turn into a million dollar mountain around here before anybody even bothers to look for the gopher traps.

Good information but I just don’t think this would ever happen here.

Heck, we can’t even get the so-called conservatives to repeal the bag ban. There is no way they go up against the fire union.

Regarding the bag ban from what I’ve heard you can forget about it ever being repealed. It turns out Renault and Sorrensen are actually for it. Morgan will only bring a measure to repeal it if the voters pass the repeal at the state level in Nov 2016. Coolidge might be willing to bring up a measure to repeal before than but it’s a moot issue as without the other three it won’t pass.

So in the last election if you voted for Renault or Sorrensen you might as well have voted for Scwab. Maybe Mary Gulag will make a come back and you can vote for her. At least Schwabbie returns emails. Renault doesn’t even bother responding.

Anyway, as far as defending liberty, freedom, fiscal responsibility and getting rid of nanny state laws you can forget it from the so-called conservatives on this city council. But really that is no surprise at all as they are all trough feeders or rent seekers. And besides, only the most egomaniacal and self-serving to into politics anyway.

What I wanted to show was how much work and dedication from citizens it takes to set up something like that. You can just forget that around here because people are too lazy to do anything for themselves in Chico. They’d rather be run by a pack of crap than go to a meeting and do the work it takes to set up this stuff.
