Re: Request to agendize Council Member term limits
I request to agendize a discussion regarding placing on the November 2018 ballot a
proposal to amend the City of Chico Charter limiting the number of Council Member terms to
three (3) terms in office.
Sincerely,
Mark Sorensen
Council Member
City of Chico

Not that I don’t like the idea – Hemet voters passed a similar measure in 2010, spending only about $3500.

But, I have to wonder – is he out to get Schwab, or  what?

I think Scwabie would stay forever if she could.

It just occurred to me recently that she’s keeping her head down.

It sounds like Sorensen wants to hang it up. Well, good for him.

I wish they would all hang it up.

But with the luck of the hapless taxpayers all that will happen is we will get a new batch of special interest flunkies to lord over us. Well, at least there might be some limit to how long they can hang around.

It will be interesting to see if this goes anywhere. After all, these people have a say in how we get to live our lives and that kind of power becomes addicting.

And it will be interesting to see how the powerful special interests react. You don’t want to offend them. Just look what happened to Michael Jones. As I recall the police union was not to happy with him and as a result no one ever heard from him again.

I think term limits are important – like you say, they get hooked on the power, the special attention, etc, they don’t know when to hang it up.

Frankly I think it should be two terms.

While you are correct – we’ll just get another batch of losers – at least there’s a limit to what a single person can accomplish in two terms.

I agree – it will be interesting to see which special interests are behind this, and which special interests will fight it. It seems the cops can always pick up a new candidate, so I don’t know if term limits will affect them.

I do think a person gets more power and influence as they stay in an office, and it’s time to shake that up.

Yes, it does seem that the only ones who win in elections are the special interests, no matter who runs. But hopefully term limits will mitigate that a bit as the current rascals will have to go after set amount of time.

Yeah, it’s time for term limits.

I wish we could have term limits on management, Orme is destroying our town.

Funny, that’s the first thing that occurred to me, too.

I just don’t trust Sorensen, he never seems to do anything out of the goodness of his heart.

But, a friend of mine reminded me, this might not cover sitting councilors – like Sorensen – we’ll have to see.
