I won’t rehash the incident, but want to call Sean Morgan on the carpet for costing the city $50,000.
He could have let Mark Herrera have his 3 minutes – 3 minutes! – to express his feelings about a local political action committee, but Sean Morgan lost his temper and had the man arrested. Why? Because Herrera was insulting local political gadfly Rob Berry. “Human paraquat”. Not even an obscenity. I could think of other insults – how about, “PG&E LAWYER!” When I mentioned that in another blog Berry actually came to my mailbox flailing and simpering. I won’t let him threaten me again. You worked for PG&E and you know it Rob, it’s right in your “Linked In”.
But Morgan gets a lot of money from Berry and his friends, so he thinks he is entitled to have somebody arrested for an insult. Then Morgan went on to libel Herrera by declaring him drunk in public just because the man has a different point of view. Is that what we can expect from our new “fiscally conservative” council?
Morgan’s the same guy who, when faced with a line at a local fast food joint, hurled a half-empty coffee cup at the counter, exclaimed the “f” word, and stomped out. This guy and his friends are now running our city. That would include little miss pawn star Teri Dubose.
Sean, you need to keep your head, cause if you cost us any more money, I’m going to sue you. I really think you should pony up the $50,000 out of your own pocket.
And here’s a stinger – that $50 grand doesn’t include attorney’s fees.
So who actually pays Herrra the $50 grand? Oh, that would be us, not Morgan.
And then there’s all those lawsuits they take up in closed session so we are never allowed to know, at least not in their meetings. I bet those go into the several millions.
And who pays for those? Oh, that would be us, not the politicians and bureaucrats.
The politicians and bureaucrats NEVER pay a penny for their incompetence, negligence and corruption. It’s ALWAYS the taxpayers who get stuck paying.
Politicians and bureaucrats are never held financially responsible for their actions. This is a major reason nothing ever changes.
And how many tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands in attorney’s fees will we be stuck paying?
Send a bill for $50K + legal fees to Morgan and Chico First.
Thanks Jim, I think that would be totally appropriate, you might want to post that suggestion on the Engaged! site for tomorrow’s meeting. One thing we can’t allow is Morgan as mayor again, or even vice mayor. He’s shown a total lack of respect for the public. In fact, I think the vice mayor position should be offered to Huber, who was the first one to step up and ask for a revote on the districts when Morgan got shoved out.
“But Morgan gets a lot of money from Berry and his friends…”
Yes, that’s right. No wonder Berry and his group were pushing for a tax increase. Someone’s got to pay for all the lawsuits. Have the taxpayers pay for it all, that seems to be what Berry believes. Forget holding the politicians and bureaucrats responsible for continually getting the city sued.
Will Berry bring back his tax increase? You bet! And if the people are stupid enough to pass it they will be up Berry Creek without a fire extinguisher!
You know, I wish you would email a request to the clerk’s office, ask them how much the city spent on defending Morgan in this lawsuit. The clerk is going to buy a new system that is supposed to handle public record requests, might as well get something for the money we will invest in that.
And yeah, Rob Berry, along with his friend Teri Dubose, have way too much influence with council. But, I’ll also say, that’s because other people sit and say nothing while Chico First, Citizens for Safe Chico, and One Chico run their propaganda unchallenged. I wish I could get some public support for an ordinance to cut the amount of money PACs are allowed to spend in an election, we should chatter that up and see where it goes.
Sounds like he is about to do it again, too.
What now? I missed the code enforcement discussion.
