New police chief’s contract signed last Tuesday, made available to the public Friday – gotta love that “sunshine”!

9 Jul

Last Tuesday night we got a new police chief – Kirk Trostle. Only a month ago city manager Dave Burkland issued a statement – “police chief candidates not knockouts” according to the Enterprise Record. Trostle is a refugee from the Oroville police department, where, as chief, he certainly had his critics. He came to Chico only about a year and a half ago, from a department that was not without it’s problems. The council made their appointment without any elaboration – he was essentially the best thing they could come up with on short notice.

But shouldn’t we be able to negotiate a better contract with this man? Retiring Chief Porky Mike Maloney is getting over $165,000 a year, just in salary. He will be getting over $100,000 to retire, for the rest of his life, plus medical benefits.  Frankly, I predict he’s carrying a colostomy bag within five years.

Have you seen Trostle’s contract? They signed it at council last Tuesday. But when we asked for it, they said we wouldn’t be able to look at it until Friday. I was invited to go down to the clerk’s office, at her convenience, 9 – 5, during MY WORK DAY, to look at a contract that had already been signed. Why in the hell would I want to do that? They don’t even offer you a decent cup of coffee.

So no, I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m guessing, it’s worse than Maloney’s contract.  A fellow taxpayer went down Friday and reports he has the contracts, but has not given me any details. I don’t know if he had to pay for paper copies or what, but you can view it for free if you want to go down there. I’ll get back to you when I got something.

And they still don’t have the council meeting video working. All you get is that bird of prey message.

I’m guessing they will wait until the whole Go”ballistic”loff thing blows over before they get the video “fixed.”

did you know, Scott Gruendl, and who knows who else, has actually pressed for council meeting videos to be “edited” before they are posted on the website?

did you know, the clerk is not allowed to take “verbatim” minutes, you know, every single word, like a court reporter? That’s how they do it in cities and counties all over the US – in fact, last I heard, the Willows School Board takes verbatim minutes. But Scott Gruendl, and who knows who else, is very adamant about that. And he’s always asking for statements, both his and others’, to be “stricken” from the minutes.

And, even though they have all the technology set up to tape ALL the meetings, they don’t tape the committee meetings. The clerk makes an audio tape, but she uses it for her records, and then she tosses it. If you’ve ever been to one of those meetings, and then read the minutes the clerk kept, you see what I mean.

      I’m just saying.

      Go”ballistic-oloff” – cute!

The more information that comes out about the Grundler the more disturbing it is.

It makes perfect sense that he wants to edit the meeting videos and transcripts.

Look at his ridiculous drama queen behavior regarding the city manager position. If you had done that you’d want it struck from the record too.

And the way he confronted Toby was disturbing.

I sometimes wonder if the medication is having some strange effects.

In any event, the Gang of 5 never ceases to amaze me.

And I sure hope Mark doe not get Goloffed again. If the Grundler had his way we would never know.

And I wonder if the voters will be dumb enough to fall for all that Scwabola in the telephone tax measure.

I know the Gang of 5 will do all they can to pull the wool over the eyes of the voters.
