Oroville cops and fire take another pay cut while Chico employees take another raise

4 Jan

Tuesday night Chico City Council unanimously approved a new contract for “public safety employees” including what city mangler Mark Orme described as “cost neutral” raises all around.

Meanwhile, Oroville is considering pay cuts for their police and fire employees, having already cut their wages in August.

Chico and Oroville wages and benefits are similar, but Oroville has a lot more lower paid cops.

In fact, Chico cops’ wages are on par with the city of Sacramento.

Oroville and Sacramento both have more violent crime than Chico – scroll down for crime statistics, and then look at the “per thousand” numbers and the index number at the bottom. Look at robberies and assaults.

Finally, here’s Chico’s latest budget – try to find street repairs for your neighborhood in there somewhere.

Does the street in front of your house look like this? Thank a police officer!

Thanks for the update. We won’t find this any place else but your blog. Certainly the Snooze and Review and Enterprise Wretched are not providing this information about the contrast in compensation for Chico city employees and other places.

The people of this corrupt little city must never forget that there is never enough money to fix the streets but plenty of money for raise for bureaucrats like Orme and for members of powerful public employee unions like the cops and fire.

Did you see Orme’s salary and benefits on public pay? I was shocked, what a pig.

My German mother in law used to mix up English sayings – instead of “he knows which side of his bread is buttered” – she said “he knows who butters his bread.” I think her version makes more sense – Orme know the cops and fire butter his bread, and he’s going to keep them happy.

Ha ha, I’m taking lunch watching “Paint Your Wagon” on tv. It’s the end, where the town collapses. How appropriate!

No Name City, No Name City, where the gubmint is creeps and the taxes are plenty!

When you add up what these people are paid during their tenure with the city plus the value of their pensions these people are millionaires several times over. It’s completely insane. The day of reckoning is gradually creeping in. We see it first in the roads and anything requiring maintenance. But it will spread and accelerate, especially if the stock market goes down. But for now the tune is, “Mommas don’t let your babies grow up to be anything but government bureaucrats (or other government employees who belong to powerful unions.)” At least as long as the stock market can keep rocketing higher.

Yes, it’s completely insane. That’s why we have to keep the conversation going in a more sane direction.

I know the stock market is high right now, the “experts” are predicting a bust, a big one.
